Temple High School Earns 4 Academic Distinctions- THS is a “Source of Pride” for Our Community

Temple High School is again being recognized as one of the top academic high schools in Texas, earning four academic distinctions in the 2016 accountability ratings.

THS earned distinctions for:

• Academic Achievement in English Language Arts/Reading;
• Academic Achievement in Mathematics;
• Academic Achievement in Science;
• Academic Achievement in Social Studies

Additionally, THS scored in the top quartile in its cohort for college ready graduates.

Temple High School is the only large high school in Bell County to earn more than one distinction.

“Earning one or more campus distinctions is noteworthy and should be a source of pride in a community,” said Commissioner of Education Mike Morath.

This makes 16 distinctions for Temple High School since the Texas Education Agency began awarding them in 2013.

Summarizing the feeling at THS, Principal Dr. Jason Mayo said, "I am extremely proud of our students and teachers. There is a lot of pride at Temple High School right now. We are excelling in academics, athletics, fine arts, and [Career & Technical Education]. We have so much positive momentum in everything that we do. To earn four Distinctions in the core areas was a great way to top off a great [15-16] school year. To earn 16 distinctions since 2013 is amazing. I don't think there is another high school in this area that can say they have earned that many distinctions. We also placed in the Top Quartile in our comparison group for College Ready Graduates. We have smart students, hardworking teachers, and strong systems in place at Temple High School. I am proud to be a Wildcat."

As Commissioner Morath noted, our entire community should be proud, proud to be #WildcatStrong.
