Visual Arts
The Visual Arts program offers a variety of both general and advanced studio and academic courses:
Lower level studio courses (Art I & II) introduce students to the formal elements and principles of art, visual arts vocabulary, methods for critical analysis, and a survey study of art aesthetics, movements, cultures, and artists. Upper level studio courses (Art III & IV) continue work in studio areas of design, drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media integrated with an analytical approach for continued development of critical analysis skills gained in lower level classes.
Advanced courses include: Advanced Art II, AP Studio Art, AP Art History, IB Studio Art, and Studio Art Intern. All advanced art courses (except Advanced Art II) are for Juniors and Seniors only, and require prerequisites and/or teacher recommendation. While Advanced courses follow the curriculum requirements and guidelines of their associated programs (AP/IB), these courses are, by their nature, increasingly self-directed and independent, research-based and analytical, and college-level instruction, or preparation for college-level courses.
