Col. William Pailes » Biography


William Pailes is the Senior Instructor and Director of Temple High School's Air Force Junior ROTC Program.  He has been at Temple HS since 2011.  Before coming to Temple he taught JROTC at Corsicana HS for nine years.  As with all JROTC instructors, Col Pailes is a military retiree.  He grew up in New Jersey and began his career at the Air Force Academy, which he graduated from in 1974, with a degree in computer science.  Later he obtained a master's degree in computer science from Texas A&M University.  He spent 22 years in the Air Force, and had assignments as an HC-130 pilot, staff officer, and Air Force astronaut in the Space Shuttle Program.  In October, 1985, he flew as the Air Force Payload Specialist on the first flight of the Space Shuttle Atlantis.  Col Pailes is deeply committed to the AFJROTC mission of "Making Better Citizens for America", and finds working with high school students to be very enjoyable and most rewarding,
