Theory of Knowledge (TOK):
This course is an exploration of critical thinking itself. It trains students to question the reliability and limits of different kinds of knowledge, preparing them to analyze complex information and biases—an indispensable skill for university-level discourse.
Extended Essay:
The EE is a 4,000-word piece of independent research. It simulates the high-level academic work expected in college, asking students to design a research question, conduct in-depth investigation, and write an extensive, original scholarly paper under minimal supervision. A study conducted by the University of Virginia's Curry School of Education found that the EE experience significantly correlated with first-year academic success, particularly in research and writing skills.
Creativity, Activity, and Service:
The CAS program encourages students to share their energy and special talents with others. Through these activities, students should develop greater awareness of themselves, concern for others, and the ability to work cooperatively with a group.
